Our Growing Lives Online: Safe or Not?
Texas Lyceum First Quarterly Meeting Held in San Antonio
The Texas Lyceum convened its first quarterly meeting of 2010 in San Antonio, February 4-7, to tackle the sensitive topic of risks associated with our connected lives. Titled "Our Growing Lives Online: Safe or Not?", the weekend explored the risks we incur by having much of our information available and potentially vulnerable on the Internet. Denim Group was a Platinum Sponsor of the event, and John Dickson was Conference Chairman.
Do Existing Laws and Technologies Protect Our Identities?
The centerpiece of the event was the first public debate of the Lyceum's 2010 "Great Debate" series. The debate tackled the thorny issue of whether existing laws and technologies adequately protect our data and identities in an online world. Panelists represented opposing viewpoints in this debate, including hackers and privacy advocates who argued these protections are inadequate, and security and government leaders who argued that laws and technologies are closing the gap.
