Today I presented to the Technology Advocates of San Antonio (TASA) group about using Microsoft SharePoint technolgies to build business portals. We covered using the capabilities of SharePoint to support collaboration, application integration and regulatory compliance. There was some great discussion with the audience that basically boiled down to the fact that to keep pace with an accelerating business environment adopting collaboration tools (whether SharePoint or otherwise) is a must-do In addition, to comply with regulatory requirements like Sarbanes-Oxley the basic building blocks of IT systems need to advance. Emailing documents around organizations and storing important documents on shared drives just won’t pass muster anymore.
